PROD!!GY
ORIGIN:
Initially, Barkhoff and Paulsen were against making a sequel to “Prod!gy” until they conceived a story they found promising. The story for the sequel was conjured near the completion of the first film, and it was quickly decided that a third film was also going to be constructed.
Structure:
Prod!!gy takes a backseat meta approach to the first film. Rather than continuing the story, it acts as if the first film was nothing more than a dream had by Iggy in the setting he’s in in the second film – a lab-like medical facility where he’s housed, with others, for scientists to study their dreams.
The film includes two halves. The first half, more comedic, fluid and free-form, was directed by Conner Paulsen while the second, a major homage to the 1975 film One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, where it becomes more commentating and dire, was directed by Mike Barkhoff.
