Making a follow-up to one of our best reviewed films, 2024’s “PROD!GY”, seemed like a daunting task – initially.
Then, when filming commenced, it became a little less worrisome. Again, when editing began, it became a lot less worrisome.
“PROD!!GY” follows 9 months later, also on a Friday The 13th, and sees QUINTOKOS reunite.
QUINTOKOS, the name credited whenever Live Free’s Mike Barkhoff and Conner Paulsen work together, served as actors, co-writers and musical composers for the preceding film. Here, they are actors, co-writers, and also co-directors, in a sense.
The film has two parts. The first, more comedic and free flow, carries the same title as the film, and is helmed by Paulsen. The second, more serious and commentating, is titled “One Flew East, One Flew West”, and sees Barkhoff tap in to the directing chair.
The film is a major homage to “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest”, particularly in it’s second part, which is Barkhoff’s favorite film and turns 50 this year. It is also dedicated to someone Barkhoff was very close to.
The film is, like the first, a balancing act between comedy and sci-fi. It strips away the reality of the first film, however, instead finding a altered Iggy who experiences dreams in which the first film occurs.
The film’s runtime is comparable to that of the first, but contains music from artists in the world as opposed to a legitimate score from the duo.
It will be available for free on Friday The 13th in June of 2025, but will be exclusive to our website.
